A Beautiful Day at the Zoo

It was a beautiful sunshiny winters day today. Almost like summer. So we went to the zoo. We had a really nice day. It was great to be outside feeling the sunshine on our faces.

But why is everyone so lazy and sleepy?

Both the grizzly bears and the black bears were taking afternoon naps. I asked a zoo keeper if they were hibernating. I didn't know, I always thought that's what bears do! But the zoo keeper said that the bears are fed a special diet at the zoo so they don't hibernate. Who knew?

Here is one little critter that was awake and alert. It is actually the first time I can remember ever seeing the red panda awake! They are sooooo cute.
Both Brittani and Alyssa got heelies for Christmas. If you don't know what these are, they are tennis shoes with a wheel in the heel. Kids love to roll around on them. Ali has had some for about a year now and she is an expert. Brittani practised a lot the first day and got pretty good at it. We don't have any sidewalk at our house so the girls were very excited about getting to heelie around at the zoo. Alyssa still hasn't gotten the hang of it though. She practised some today but is really afraid of falling down. For good reason too, Ali feel when she first got hers and got a very severe skinned knee. So most of our time at the zoo was spent heeling ( how do you spell that anyway?) and climbing around on stuff. Which is OK with me. It was just good to be outside enjoying the day and each other.
